We highly recommend deworming your pet to ensure internal parasites are booted out of their bodies. Parasites can create a range of health complications for your pet, with heartworm disease being one of the most serious. If your pet is due for their next deworming, please contact us at 403-253-7044.

What are the signs of a parasite infection?

It’s important to stay vigilant if you notice any sudden changes in your pet’s behaviour. Depending on the parasite, some pets don’t start showing symptoms until they’re in a later stage of infection. Early detection allows us to treat parasite infections more effectively. Signs you can look out for include:

  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Tiredness
  • Difficulty breathing

How often should my pet be dewormed?

Untreated parasites can cause intestinal issues, extreme weight loss, skin issues and organ damage. Deworming is based on your pet’s individual needs, like how susceptible they are to internal parasite infections. We recommend deworming a few times a year, at least four times, depending on the season. Deworming medication is available in a range of forms, including oral medications. It targets larvae and adult worms living inside your pet, usually with the help of multiple doses. In addition to deworming, we also recommend having your pet on a parasite prevention plan to ensure they’re protected year-round.
